Job summary

Boys and Girls Club in Poway, California is seeking an Associate Teacher to provide care and education for children aged 0–5 and to support teachers and families.

You will collaborate with the Center Supervisor to plan developmentally appropriate activities, supervise instructional assistants and bus safety, and complete required pediatric first aid/CPR training within 30 days. This on-site role requires relevant ECE qualifications and a CA license/permit or enrollment in a CDA program.

Qualifications

• 12 ECE semester units (or CDA/CTC).
• 6 months experience with children 0–5.
• Associate Teacher Permit or higher.
• CDA credential or California equivalent at hire or enrollment within 2 years.
• Associate or bachelor's degree or enrollment in such a program.

Responsibilities

• Provide care and education for children 0–5.
• Collaborate with Center Supervisor to plan activities.
• Guide instructional assistants, parents, and volunteers in the teacher's absence.
• Maintain a safe, clean, nurturing environment.
• Assist with planning educational activities for child development.
• Participate in physical activities, games, music, and outdoor play.
• Assist with bus supervision and child safety during transportation.
• Complete pediatric first aid and pediatric CPR within 30 days.
• Complete 16 hours of health and safety training within 30 days.

We are looking for dedicated individual to join our Early Childhood Education team as Associate Teacher. This is a unique opportunity to play a pivotal role in the growth and development of children while supporting our mission to provide high-quality education and care.

What we're looking for in the ideal candidate:

• Has 12 semester units ECE/CD, with a grade C or better, or CDA Credential or CTC.
• Has 6 months related experience with children ages 0-5 years of age.
• Has an Associate Teacher Permit or higher.
• HS/EHS/MSHS/State-Braided Associate Teachers must also meet at least one of the following criteria:
  • Have a child development associate (CDA) credential or the California equivalent of a Child Development Associate Teacher Permit at time of hire (12 ECE semester units including core courses; and for EHS and infant/toddler classrooms must also have 6 infant/toddler semester units)
  • OR
  • Be enrolled in a CDA credential program that will be completed within 2 years;
  • OR
  • Have an associate or bachelor's degree (in any area) or be enrolled in a program leading to such a degree.
• Depending on the department assigned, a valid California driver’s license, a current DMV driving record, and proof of insurance may be required to fulfill job-related travel. Reasonable accommodations will be considered in accordance with applicable laws.

As an Associate Teacher you will:

• Provide care and education for children ages 0-5, ensuring a positive and engaging learning experience.
• Collaborate with the Center Supervisor and Teachers to plan and implement developmentally appropriate activities.
• Assume the responsibilities of a Teacher in their absence, guiding and supporting instructional assistants, parents, and volunteers.
• Maintain a safe, clean, and nurturing environment for all children.
• Assist in planning and executing educational activities that promote child development.
• Participate in physical activities with children, including games, music, and outdoor play.
• Assist with bus supervision, ensuring the safety and engagement of children during transportation.
• Complete pediatric first aid and pediatric CPR training within the first 30 days of hire.
• Complete 16 hours of training on preventative health practices and nutrition, as required by Health and Safety Code within the first 30 days of hire.
