Job summary

The Whatcom Family YMCA in Bellingham, WA is seeking an Assistant Preschool Teacher to support the Lead Teacher in a Preschool 2 classroom with children ages 3–5. This full-time role offers 40 hours per week with various shift times and the opportunity to grow within a mission-driven organization.

You will assist with planning activities, supervise safety, promote positive behavior, and maintain a nurturing, structured learning environment for young children.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years of age or older and a high school graduate (or equivalent).
• Experience working with young children in groups preferred.
• Ability to plan, organize and implement age-appropriate activities.
• Current CPR/First Aid certifications.

Responsibilities

• Assist with planning and implementing classroom activities supporting the YMCA's early learning curriculum.
• Supervise children to ensure safety and well-being at all times.
• Promote positive behavior management and conflict resolution.
• Support individual learning styles and developmental needs.
• Maintain a clean, organized, engaging classroom environment.
• Build strong relationships with children, families, and co-workers.
• Attend staff meetings, trainings, and professional development opportunities.
• Comply with licensing and YMCA policies and procedures.
