Job summary

The Valley Shore YMCA is hiring a Pre-School Assistant Teacher to support families and children during Before & After School programs. You will supervise, assist with activities, and help maintain a welcoming, safe space that reflects YMCA values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 16 years old.
• Previous childcare or education experience preferred.
• CPR/AED and First Aid certification required within 90 days of hire.
• Child Abuse Prevention training required within 7 days of hire.
• Ability to relate effectively to diverse families.

Responsibilities

• Provide active supervision and positive engagement for children in Child Watch programs.
• Learn and address children by name to build rapport and a welcoming atmosphere.
• Introduce children to program rules, routines, and activity areas.
• Ensure safety and well-being of each child, including attendance tracking.
• Report accidents or incidents promptly and complete required documentation.
• Follow YMCA policies and procedures to maintain a safe environment.
• Maintain a clean, organized, age-appropriate program space and supplies.
• Support implementation of themed activities and enrichment experiences.
• Communicate respectfully with parents, members, youth, and coworkers.
• Attend required meetings, trainings, and professional development.
