The Village of Lake in the Hills seeks a Preschool Assistant to collaborate with teachers to support children's social and intellectual development in a safe environment. Responsibilities include classroom setup, coordinating snack time, and ensuring safety while complying with health guidelines. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills and have a high school diploma or equivalent.
The purpose of this position is to assist the Preschool Supervisor and the Preschool Lead Teachers in the classroom with the instruction of children in activities designed to promote social, physical and intellectual growth needed to be successful in Elementary School.
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Under Direction:
Sets up and cleans the classroom on a daily basis.
Coordinates snack time for the students on a daily basis.
Assists the Preschool Supervisor and Preschool Lead Teacher with projects and activities as needed.
Substitutes for other preschool staff as required.
Assists with maintaining order and enforces rules to control behavior.
Maintains a clean, safe, and secure environment for participants.
Additional Tasks and Responsibilities
Provides first aid assistance to participants when necessary, completing necessary forms and reporting all accidents, incidents or inappropriate behavior.
Report any behavioral, safety, or other preschool related issues to the Preschool Lead Teacher or Supervisor.
Ensures that the facility is secure.
Performs other duties as deemed appropriate by Supervisor. Minimum Training and Experience Required to Perform Essential Job Functions
High school diploma or equivalent, with six months preschool experience preferred.
Must be at least 18 years of age and possess a valid Illinois driver's license.

Language Ability and Interpersonal Communication
Ability to effectively communicate with Village personnel, program participants and school personnel.
Mathematical Ability
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide, and calculate percentages, fractions, and decimals.
Judgment and Situational Reasoning Ability
Ability to interpret and carry out instructions furnished in written and oral form.
Ability to exercise independent judgment regarding adopting or modifying methods and standards to meet variations in assigned objectives.
Ability to exercise sound judgment, decisiveness and creativity in situations involving immediate response.
Physical Requirements
Ability to coordinate eyes, hands, feet, and limbs while performing movements.
Ability to exert physical effort in sedentary to light work; which involves some lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling.
Ability to recognize and identify similarities or differences between characteristics of colors, shapes, and sounds associated with job-related objects, materials, and tasks.
Environmental Adaptability
Ability to work independently and complete daily activities under little supervision.
Ability to work, at times, with angry or irate individuals.
