Job summary

YMCA of San Diego County seeks a Preschool Aide to help supervise children aged 3–5 and to plan activities for participants. The role runs Monday through Friday from 8:15 AM to 1:30 PM, with a focus on safety, positive communication, and program continuity.

You will assist the Preschool Teacher, interact with families and staff, and help maintain a clean, organized program space while supporting the YMCA mission and policies.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old or a high school graduate.
• 3 units in Early Child Development required within 120 days of employment.
• Experience working or volunteering in a child care setting is desirable.
• Criminal record clearance by fingerprinting prior to reporting to work.
• Completion of Child Abuse Prevention online training prior to working with participants.
• Health and Safety training within 60 days of hire.
• Physical and TB test within 7 days of hire.
• Proof of immunizations (MMR, pertussis, influenza) within 7 days of hire.
• Pediatric CPR and Pediatric First Aid certification required within 30 days of hire from recognized providers.

Overview

Preschool Aide

The Preschool Aide will assist in the supervision of children ages 3-5 years of age, plan and implement activities for participants.

Schedule:

Monday through Friday 8:15 - 1:30pm

Responsibilities

• Supervise participants, ensuring their guidance and safety
• Assist the Preschool Teacher in the supervision and implementation of the daily program at YMCA Preschool in accordance with the goals and policies of the YMCA
• Communicate in a positive manner to all participants, parents, community members and co-workers
• Maintain a professional demeanor at all times to ensure the YMCA image and mission statement are upheld
• Interact with participants in a positive manner while being consistent, fair and treating them with dignity and respect according to the YMCA Code of Conduct
• Assist in the general housekeeping of the program space and food preparation
• Follow emergency procedures appropriately to ensure the safety of the participants and staff
• Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical incidents and the physical ability to act in an emergency situation
• Physical ability to lead and interact in active sports and games with children, monitor behavior requiring separation and interact in curriculum activities and housekeeping responsibilities
• Must be able to relate well to both children and adults. Ability to provide leadership and stability for program continuity
• Must be highly dependable and flexible with daily schedule
• Must have a warm and friendly personality, while having sensitivity to meet the needs of a diverse population
• Willingness to fulfill the job responsibilities in accordance with the program and branch goals

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years of age or a high school graduate
• 3 units in Early Child Development required within 120 days of employment
• Experience working or volunteering in a child care setting highly desirable
• Criminal record clearance by being fingerprinted prior to reporting to work and signing a statement regarding criminal convictions
• Completion of Child Abuse Prevention on line training prior to working with participants
• Health and Safety training within 60 days of hire
• A physical and TB test within 7 days of hire
• Must provide proof of current measles (MMR), pertussis (TDap), and influenza immunizations within 7 days of hire
• Pediatric CPR and Pediatric First Aid certification required within 30 days of hire, unless specified otherwise on contract, and must be from one of the following:
  • American Red Cross
  • American Heart Association
  • American Safety & Health Institute

Pay Range
