Job summary

Hopkins House Preschool Academy in Alexandria, VA is seeking a Principal to serve as the chief academic officer and member of the senior management team. You will safeguard educational quality, oversee operations, and maintain open communication with parents and community groups.

You will lead curriculum implementation, staff supervision, enrollment management, budgeting, and policy compliance while representing the Academy to external partners and guiding a collaborative, student-centered

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s/masters-level education leadership experience is expected.
  • Experience in curriculum development and school operations is essential.
  • Strong communication with parents and staff is required.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains target student enrollment at all times.
  • Assists in marketing the Academy in the local community and recruiting students.
  • Ensures proper and timely completion of student enrollment documentation.
  • Ensures compliance with licensure, accreditation, and institutional standards and policies.
  • Recommends Academy staff hiring, promotions, and disciplinary actions.
  • Supervises and evaluates the Assistant Principal and staff.
  • Implements preschool curriculum, reviews lesson plans, and collects assessment data.
  • Provides inhouse training and professional development for Academy staff.
  • Conducts meetings of Academy staff to discuss and coordinate Academy policy and procedures.
  • Develops and maintains positive and open communication with parents of Academy students.
  • Conducts meetings of parents of Academy students.
  • Conducts orientation for parents of Academy students using Family Handbook as a guide.
  • Publishes monthly Academy newsletter for parents of Academy students.
  • Assists parents to complete applications for preschool tuition assistance/scholarships.
  • Manages the Academy budget.
  • Authorizes administrative and financial request forms.
  • Submits reports to the President, as requested.
  • Represents the Academy to outside groups and organizations, as assigned by the President.
  • Serves as ex officio member of Academy Parents Council.
  • Serves as voting member of the Board's Programs & Assessment and Scholarships & Recognitions Committees.
  • Serves as Community Liaison to the homeowners/civic association.
  • Attends trustee meetings; and,
  • Provides such other related duties as may, from time-to-time, be assigned.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Preschool Academy Principal is the chief academic officer of the Preschool Academy and a member of the senior management team. MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT:

Master's degree or higher, in Early Childhood or Elementary Education, or related field.

YEARS OF RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE:

At least 5 years of supervisory or managerial experience in a licensed childcare facility or school.

OTHER RELATED REQUIREMENTS:
  • Knowledge of computers and computing (specifically MSOffice).
  • CPR/First Aid and Food Handling certifications.
  • Excellent verbal and writing skills, as well as demonstrated organizational skills and curriculum experience.
  • Willingness and ability to work regular early morning, evenings, and some weekend hours, as needed.
  • Experience in a NAEYC accredited program highly desirable but not required.
TIME COMMITMENT:

Must be able and willing to work no less than 40 hours weekly. As would be expected of a senior management level job, actual hours vary based on the current needs of the Academy, including scheduled and unscheduled evening and weekend hours.
