Job summary

SGI seeks a meticulous Prepress Technician/Typesetter to preflight customer files for digital and traditional presses. You will format text-heavy medical documents, manage variable data, and ensure accurate impositions and brand consistency.

The role requires a Bachelor’s degree and 3–5 years in print production or related fields, with strong InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, and Acrobat Pro skills. Familiarity with FTP and DSLR photography is a plus.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required.
• 3-5 years’ experience in print production, prepress, typesetting, or similar role.
• Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat Pro).
• Working knowledge of print specifications (bleed, die lines, color builds, DPI, imposition).
• Familiarity with FTP and other web-based file services.
• Experience with variable data and Fusion Pro preferred.
• Understanding of DSLR photography and studio lighting preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepress: Prepare print-ready files for digital press operator and verify artwork against brand guidelines; create/modify dielines and output art packages.
• Typesetting: Create/modify InDesign documents from annotated PDFs and Word docs; maintain version control and naming conventions; review against source materials.
• Variable Data: Create Fusion Pro templates for variable data; maintain templates for recurring programs.
• Product Imaging: Scan or photograph materials and upload images to client storefronts.

JOB SUMMARY

The Prepress Technician/Typesetter will preflight customer-supplied files for print on digital and traditional presses and will craft the layout and formatting of text-heavy medical documents and instructions. The work is technical, detail-intensive, and deadline-driven. The ideal person is a keen-eyed critical thinker and problem solver with the technical understanding to identify and correct potential issues early in the job process. They must be able to effectively prioritize a variety of tasks (such as prepress, typesetting, variable data setup, and product imaging) and manage their time well. While many of their tasks are not collaborative, they must respond well to feedback and be able to clearly communicate with others regarding expectations, timelines, and job details.

Responsibilities

Prepress:

• Prepare print-ready files for the digital press operator
• Verify that customer-supplied artwork is aligned with brand guidelines and set up according to the job specifications
• Create/modify dielines for printers and agencies
• Output print-ready art packages for external print vendors

Typesetting

• Create formatted InDesign documents from annotated PDF and Word documents, in accordance with required standards
• Update existing InDesign documents based on changes called out in annotated PDF and Word documents
• Maintain clear version control and file organization/naming conventions
• Call out client instructions that are inconsistent or unclear and suggest possible solutions for Account Managers to propose to the client
• Review completed documents against source materials to confirm accuracy prior to handoff to proofreader

Variable Data

• Create Fusion Pro templates for variable data print pieces
• Create and maintain templates for recurring variable programs
• Ensure recurring variable programs meet job requirements

Product Imaging

• Scan or photograph printed and assembled materials
• Upload product images to client storefronts

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree
• 3-5 years’ experience in print production, prepress, typesetting, or similar role
• Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud (emphasis in InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, and Acrobat Pro)
• Working knowledge of print specifications (bleed, die lines, color builds, DPI, imposition etc.)
• Familiarity with FTP and other web-based file services
• Experience with variable data and Fusion Pro preferrable
• Understanding of DSLR photography and studio lighting preferrable
