Job summary

RR Donnelley in Houston, TX is seeking a Prelim/Prepress Operator 2 to join our print production team. You will review client files, prepare layouts, and ensure accuracy before plate making.

The role requires proficiency with Mac/PC layout software, Adobe Creative Suite, and strong color management, with hands-on work on CTP and related equipment. You will cooperate with Customer Service and production to resolve issues and maintain quality.

Qualifications

• Experience with Mac/PC layout software and file handling.
• Understanding of digital file formats: pdf, tiff, eps.
• Experience with imposition software and Adobe Creative Suite.
• Advanced color management skills and familiarity with various formats.
• Ability to output digital files to multiple devices and learn new software.
• Understanding of offset printing and color interactions.
• Mechanical skills for small repairs and equipment maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Review electronic files for completeness before plate making.
• Use desktop publishing software to adjust layouts to paper size.
• Determine page layout with folds, trims, bleeds and crop marks; add color bars as needed.
• Identify missing or problematic components and communicate with stakeholders.
• Collaborate with Customer Service, customer and production to resolve issues.
• Load customer files for output during manufacturing.
• Prepare color proofs for customer review.
• Impose images and operate CTP and bending/tabbing equipment to prepare plates.
• Perform quality checks on finished plates before release.
