Metropolitan Market on Mercer Island is seeking team members for our Prepared Foods and Cheese Department. You will engage guests, share product knowledge, and keep self-serve displays clean and stocked.

Responsibilities

• Complete our Prepared Foods training program (24–32 hours) beginning after orientation at a Metropolitan Market training store.
• Demonstrate enthusiasm and tailor approach to guest needs and build rapport through personalized service.
• Assess, anticipate, and respond to guests' product-related needs and questions.
• Remain knowledgeable and current in areas of responsibility, including product knowledge.
• Move from greeting to providing product information, up-selling, closing the sale, and thanking guests.
• Maintain inventory to support effective sales merchandising and maximize sales potential; assist with ordering products and supplies.
• Ensure highest-quality products are stocked; remove outdated products from sales areas daily.
• Assist with development and maintenance of product displays that create an exciting marketplace.
• Actively participate in product promotions/focuses and community events.
• Maintain the back room, walk-in coolers, and freezer in a safe, clean, organized manner.

THE ROLE

Team members within our Prepared Foods and Cheese Department are knowledgeable, food-loving individuals who take pride in delivering an exceptional guest experience. They actively engage with guests, share product knowledge, and ensure our wonderful self-serve displays are clean and well-stocked. Our fast-paced environment requires team members to successfully prioritize between routine tasks (such as product preparation, stocking, cleaning, and maintaining visually compelling displays) and immediate guest needs. We seek individuals who are dependable, team-oriented, and motivated to uphold our high-quality standards while contributing to a welcoming, service-driven environment.

MORE ABOUT WHAT YOU’D DO

• Complete our Prepared Foods training program to build the knowledge and skills needed for success. The program is 24–32 hours, depending on role, and begins immediately following orientation at a designated Metropolitan Market training store.
• Demonstrate genuine enthusiasm and sincerity; customize approach to meet guest needs and build rapport through individualized service.
• Effectively assess, anticipate, and follow through on guests' product-related needs and questions.
• Actively work to remain knowledgeable and current in areas of responsibility, including product knowledge.
• Move with ease from greeting to providing product information, up-selling, closing the sale, thanking guests, and inviting them back.
• Maintain product inventory at a level that supports effective sales merchandising and maximizes sales potential; assist the Leadership Team with ordering products and supplies.
• Actively work to ensure that the highest-quality products are stocked; appropriately remove and replace outdated products from sales areas daily.
• Assist with the development and maintenance of product displays that create an exciting marketplace.
• Actively participate in product promotions/focuses and community events.
• Maintain the back room, walk-in coolers, and freezer in a safe, clean, and organized manner.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

• One year of customer service and merchandising product experience preferred.
• Knowledge of food safety, HACCP/Department of Health guidelines, inventory and portion control, and experience in merchandising products preferred.
• Exceptional customer service skills.
• Understanding of food, including ingredients, applications, pronunciations, and culinary skills.
• A high level of self-motivation and initiative.
• Ability to problem solve and have proven success working in a diverse team environment.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining quality and meeting deadlines.
• Excellent time management and organizational skills.
