Job summary

Sage Oil Vac, Inc. is seeking a Preparation Technician in Amarillo, TX to prepare surfaces for painting and ensure quality and safety standards are met. This hourly role supports the Production team and reports to the Production Supervisor.

You will inspect, clean, sand, mask, and ready surfaces, mix paints, set up equipment, and monitor finished work for defects, while maintaining a clean work area and complying with PPE guidelines.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Experience in manufacturing painting and surface preparation is a plus.
  • Familiarity with sanding and paint prepping techniques is helpful.
  • Knowledge of surface preparation methods.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to high-quality finishes.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Understanding of safety procedures and protocols in painting environments.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect surface to be painted for imperfections, contaminants, or irregularities.
  • Clean surfaces using appropriate solvents and tools, and sand rough areas to create a smooth finish.
  • Prepare surfaces of manufactured products by cleaning, sand blasting, power washing to ensure proper adhesion of paint.
  • Mask off areas not to be painted and apply tape to protect surface from paint splatter.
  • Handle and mix paint materials according to specifications, including measuring and blending.
  • Set up and prepare painting equipment, ensuring proper functionality and safety.
  • Inspect finished products to ensure they meet the required quality and aesthetic standards.
  • Correct any defects or imperfections in the finish as needed.
  • Perform routine maintenance on painting and preparation equipment to ensure they are in good working condition.
  • Report any equipment malfunctions or issues for timely repair.
  • Adhere to safety guidelines and protocols when handling paints, solvents, and chemicals.
  • Maintain an inventory of solvents, sanding and washing, and painting supplies.
  • Report to supervisor the supplies to have ordered and restocked as needed.
  • Maintain accurate records of the types of paint used, surface preparation techniques, and other relevant information for quality control and future reference.
  • Responsible for moving items to drying areas.
  • Responsible for unloading and stacking products for further painting or packaging.
  • Use and operation of heavy equipment such as cranes, forklifts, etc.
  • Application of seam sealers.
  • Ensure the work area and paint booth are cleaned and orderly daily.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Purpose and Scope

As a Preparation Technician at Sage Oil Vac, Inc., your primary responsibility is to prepare surfaces to product in accordance with quality and safety standards.
