Job summary

ASU Preparatory Academy (ASUPrep) is expanding its Digital+ program. The Prep Digital+ Paraeducator supports students as they complete academic work in the classroom, acting as a liaison between the highly qualified teacher and the students while supervising academic progress and behavior.

The role requires open and ongoing communication with partnership support staff and the ability to observe and control student behavior. Salary range is hourly: $15.50–$21.50 USD.

Qualifications

  • Must meet Highly Qualified requirements evidenced by diploma/degree or 60 credits or approved assessments.
  • Active DPS IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.
  • Experience supervising and assisting groups of children preferred.
  • Regular and predictable attendance essential.
  • Equivalency considered.

Responsibilities

  • Works with and directs small groups of students under the supervision of the teacher.
  • Assists students in understanding directions, encourages independent work, reinforces skills.
  • Provides individual assistance to students as needed.
  • Supervises students during lunch, breaks, pick-up, etc.
  • Assists with classroom cleanup and preparation.
  • Records attendance and other information.
  • Prepares the classroom for instruction.
  • Collects resources and supplementary materials.
  • Prepares instructional materials.
  • Additional duties may be assigned as necessary.

Job Overview

ASU Preparatory Academy (ASUPrep), part of Arizona State University’s charter to provide access and excellence, is expanding its Digital+ program. The Prep Digital+ Paraeducator supports students as they complete academic work in the classroom, acting as a liaison between the highly qualified teacher and the students while supervising academic progress and behavior. The role requires open and ongoing communication with partnership support staff and the ability to observe and control student behavior. Ideal candidates have experience with high‑school students.

Salary Range: $15.50–$21.50USD hourly.

Qualifications
  • Must meet Highly Qualified requirements by holding a high‑school diploma or GED and an associate’s degree or higher, or by completing 60 semester hours of college credit, or by obtaining a passing score on one of the ADE‑approved assessments: ETS ParaPro Assessment (Praxis) or ACT WorkKeys Master Teacher’s Paraeducator PD.
  • Active Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.
  • Previous experience supervising and assisting groups of children; highly preferred.
  • Regular and predictable attendance is essential.
  • Any equivalent combination of experience, training, and/or education may be considered.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Works with and directs small groups of students under the supervision of the teacher.
  • Assists students in understanding and following directions, encouraging independent work, and reinforcing skills taught by the classroom Personalized Learning Advisor.
  • Provides individual assistance to students as needed.
  • Supervises students during lunch, breaks, pick‑up, etc.
  • Assists the Personalized Learning Advisor with general cleanup and preparation of the classroom.
  • Records attendance and other information.
  • Prepares the classroom for instruction.
  • Collects resources and supplementary materials.
  • Prepares instructional materials.
  • Additional duties may be assigned as necessary.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Excellent reading, writing, computation and communication skills.
  • Ability to perform routine clerical tasks in support of classroom activities.
  • Effective oral and written communication.
  • Collaborative working with others.
Physical Demands

The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met to perform this job successfully. The employee is frequently required to stand, talk, hear, sometimes walk and sit. Hands, arms and fingers are used to input data, handle, feel and reach. Occasionally the employee may need to push or lift up to 20lb (e.g., boxes, supplies). Specific vision abilities required include close vision for reading handwritten or typed material and the ability to adjust focus, close, distance, color, peripheral vision and depth perception. Location

Digital+ Site. The position will be at ASUWestValley (Glendale, AZ), ASUMix Center (Mesa, AZ), or ASUTempe (Tempe, AZ). The employee will primarily serve one site, with at least one day supporting the other location.

Travel

Occasional travel may be required for site visits, meetings, trainings and/or conferences. Locations may vary and may require overnight stays.
