Job Title: Cook

The Cook prepares, serves, and forecasts all items needed for menu services according to recipes and production methods as directed. This position will prepare meals for patients following specific diets, prepare meals for cafeteria service, and prep ingredients/recipes for daily operations.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Prepares all foods, ensuring they are ready for service as scheduled, in proper amounts, ensuring quality, quantity, and presentation.
  2. Ensures all foods presented for service are served at the proper temperature and merchandized to enhance quality.
  3. Follows recipes and prepares foods in proper amounts and portion sizes for service.
  4. Reviews with staff all menu items to be served regarding their content and method of service.
  5. Alerts staff to any menu changes in sufficient time for action.
  6. Reviews all menus for service periods to ensure proper preparation according to forecasts, recipes, and portions in time for service.
  7. Discusses the next day’s service with staff and alerts them to any changes or special requirements.
  8. Assists with sanitation of the food service area, including cleaning walls, equipment, dishroom, and trash cans.
  9. Maintains a clean and organized work area at all times.
Physical and Sensory Requirements:

Walking for up to 7 hours, sitting for up to 1 hour, and standing up to 1.5 hours in 30-minute intervals. Frequently handles objects and occasionally twists/turns, lifts (1-50 lb.), carries (1-50 lb.), pushes (1-50 lb.), and pulls (1-50 lb.). Occasionally stoops/bends, climbs, and reaches above shoulder level. Must have the ability to hear normal conversation and have general, far, and peripheral vision.

Education:

High School diploma or equivalent preferred. Effective communication in English required.

Training and Experience:

Previous cooking experience, preferably in a hospital or restaurant setting. On-the-job training will be provided.
