Position Summary:

The Prep Cook is responsible for preparing a variety of foods and ingredients to ensure high quality and resident satisfaction, while maintaining cleanliness of the food service area.

Position Responsibilities include:

1. Applies sanitation and safety techniques while working.
2. Prepares and produces ingredients and menu items as assigned.
3. Cooks meals according to menus and recipes, adhering to all dietary requirements.
4. Measures and mixes food ingredients according to recipes, preparing all types of food following accepted food production methods and regulatory standards.
5. Practices portion control during preparation and service of all diets.
6. Performs cleaning and maintenance of kitchen facilities and equipment according to schedules and procedures, maintaining logs.
7. Communicates any changes or substitutions on daily menus to the supervisor.
8. Ensures proper labeling, dating, and rotation of foods in all storage areas.
9. Works in accordance with safety guidelines.
10. Familiar with the food service disaster plan.

Qualifications

Education:

High school diploma or GED preferred.

Training and Experience:

Previous food service experience preferred.

Serve Safe Certification preferred.

Job Knowledge:

• Knowledge of safe food handling and preparation.
• Understanding of practices to avoid waste and misuse.
• Ability to present foods attractively and test quality by taste and smell.
• Broad knowledge of breakfast, lunch, and dinner entree preparation.
• Knowledge of scratch soups, sauces/gravies, starches, and vegetables.

Additional Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Serve Safe certification preferred.
