We are based in the heart of New York City, offering culinary programs that include meeting catering, office-wide meals, receptions, and events. Our custom 10,000 square foot commissary located in Bryant Park allows us to minimize your onsite back of house needs, resulting in food service that is nimble, lightweight, and cost-efficient. Our rapid growth has prompted us to seek qualified individuals that will be a positive addition to our tight-knit family and help shape the future of Savory.

A little about the Role

We are currently seeking a Prep Cook to join the team at Savory Hospitality. Our ideal candidate will anticipate and address the needs of the company and our clientele with a heavy focus on order fulfillment, presentation and plating, work & DOH safety, and high-end product quality. The Prep Cook will successfully compose and safely package completed orders, while encompassing the full Savory spirit and providing high-quality service to our clientele. In addition, the Prep Cook will also be responsible for communicating any on-site/off-site issues with quality, order fulfillment, or inventory. Other essential duties include supporting the hospitality and culinary teams.

  6. Has at least 2 years of experience with high volume catering, restaurants, or hospitality entities.
  7. Must be a team player with a warm personality and honest values.
  8. Flexible and willing to work a flexible schedule, including days, evenings, and holidays.

Responsibilities

  1. Follow the prep list created by chefs to plan duties.
  2. Label and stock all ingredients on shelves so they can be organized and easily accessible.
  3. Measure ingredients and seasonings to be used in cooking.
  4. Prepare cooking ingredients by washing and chopping vegetables, cutting meat etc.
  5. Undertake basic cooking duties such as reducing sauces, parboiling food etc.
  6. Prepare simple dishes such as salads, entrees etc.
  7. Maintain a clean and orderly kitchen by washing dishes, sanitizing surfaces, taking out trash etc.
  8. Ensure all food and other items are stored properly.
  9. Comply with nutrition and sanitation guidelines.
  10. Perform other kitchen duties as assigned.

Skills

  1. Proven experience as prep cook.
  2. Knowledge of health and safety rules in a kitchen.
  3. Manual dexterity able to operate cutting tools and kitchen utensils.
  4. A team player with good communication skills.
  5. Patient with an ability to stay positive under pressure.
  6. Handles high volume bulk production well.
  7. Displays comfort with different knife cuts.
