Job description

Casa Tua is seeking a dedicated and skilled Prep Cook to join our culinary team. The ideal candidate is passionate about food, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and takes pride in executing prep work with accuracy, speed, and precision. A strong foundation in knife skills, the ability to follow detailed instructions, and a commitment to Department of Health (DOH) standards are essential for success in this role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Execute high-volume prep work including washing, peeling, chopping, slicing, and dicing a variety of ingredients with speed and accuracy.

  • Follow all standardized recipes and prep lists provided by the culinary team.

  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of prep areas in accordance with DOH kitchen standards and internal safety protocols.

  • Ensure all mise en place is prepared in a timely manner to support service needs.

  • Label, date, and properly store all prepped items to ensure freshness and minimize waste.

  • Assist with inventory checks and restocking of stations as needed.

  • Operate kitchen equipment safely and correctly.

  • Communicate effectively with chefs and teammates to ensure consistency and efficiency.

  • Maintain a flexible schedule and be available to work weekends, holidays, and shifts as required.

Qualifications:

  • 1+ year experience in a professional kitchen preferred, ideally in Mediterranean or Italian cuisine.

  • Proven knife skills and familiarity with high-volume prep tasks.

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions without deviation.

  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure and maintain composure in a fast-paced environment.

  • Knowledge of food safety, handling, and sanitation standards (NYC Food handlers preferred).

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods.

  • Dependable, punctual, and a team player with a strong work ethic.
