Job summary

The Medical University of South Carolina Health System in Florence, SC invites applications for the Pre-Admission Testing Advanced Practice Provider role. You will perform thorough preoperative evaluations and coordinate medical optimization ahead of surgery, working with surgical and anesthesia teams and an additional AP provider.

Ideal candidates are licensed in South Carolina as a PA or NP, with BLS certification, and a commitment to patient education, safety, and evidence-based perioperative

Qualifications

• Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program with current licensure or eligibility for licensure in South Carolina.
• Currently licensed (or eligible) in the state of South Carolina as a Physician Assistant by the South Carolina Board of Medical Examiners or as a Nurse Practitioner with the SC Board of Nursing.
• Requires certification in BLS
• APRN or PA must maintain licenses, certifications, CNEs/CMEs, etc. as required by applicable policies and state law
• DHEC and DEA license

Responsibilities

• Evaluate patients for medical optimization prior to surgery, identifying and addressing conditions that may impact perioperative safety.
• Provide patient education regarding preoperative instructions, medication management, fasting guidelines, and expectations for surgical experience.
• Initiates referrals to other health care providers, and/or consults with the attending physician or the collaborating physician
• Communicate significant findings or concerns with the surgical and anesthesia teams to ensure continuity of care.
• Potential to precept students at MUSC enrolled as an advanced practice provider student; and facilitates the learning of other new team members
