Job summary

Novant Health is seeking a Surgical Services RN for a PRN float pool across Charlotte and Winston-Salem facilities. The role requires a current NC RN license, BLS, ACLS preferred, and at least 2 years of Pre-OP and PACU experience in inpatient and ambulatory settings.

Qualifications

• RN license in NC or compact state (current)
• BLS required; ACLS preferred
• 2 years of Pre-OP and PACU experience in inpatient & ASC settings
• Strong clinical judgment, teamwork, and communication skills

Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive pre-operative nursing assessments including history, allergies, medications, and baseline vitals.
• Initiate IV access and administer pre-operative meds; manage post-operative pain, nausea, vomiting, and recovery symptoms.
• Prepare patients for surgery with education on procedures, anesthesia, and post‑operative care.
• Monitor airway, respiratory status, oxygenation, circulation, neurological status, and pain during recovery.
• Perform post-anesthesia assessments and recognize complications needing intervention.
• Assess surgical sites, drains, dressings, and drainage for signs of issues.
• Monitor cardiac rhythms and vital signs; respond to changes in condition.

What We Offer

Surgical Services Float Pool- Enterprise Pre-op & PACU

• Schedule: Day Shift, PRN. Department requires candidate to be available for 1 shift per week as the minimum requirements. Shifts are 8 hours, within a window of 5:30A-5:30P, M-F. Schedules done on a 6 week time tract.
• Department: Pre-Op/PACU
• Location: Candidate will float to both Charlotte and Winston Salem within both inpatient facilities and ambulatory surgery centers, 23 facilities total. This position does not have a set location.
• Requirements: Candidates must have a minimum of two years of both preop and PACU experience, within both inpatient & ASC settings.

What You’ll Do

• Conduct comprehensive pre-operative nursing assessments, including medical history, allergies, medications, and baseline vital signs.
• Initiate and maintain intravenous access and administer pre-operative medications as ordered & manage post-operative pain, nausea, vomiting, and other recovery‑related symptoms.
• Prepare patients for surgery by providing education regarding procedures, anesthesia, recovery expectations, and post-operative care.
• Monitor airway patency, respiratory status, oxygenation, circulation, neurological status, and pain levels during recovery.
• Perform ongoing post-anesthesia assessments and recognize complications requiring intervention.
• Assess surgical sites, drains, dressings, and drainage for signs of complications.
• Monitor cardiac rhythms and vital signs, responding appropriately to changes in patient condition.
