Job summary

Horace Mann is seeking a detail-oriented Premium Accounting Analyst to support accurate processing, reconciliation, and management of premium payments and customer accounts. You will research payment discrepancies, reconcile activity to the General Ledger, and manage suspense accounts across multiple payment methods.

The ideal candidate has strong accounting foundations, research skills, and a commitment to accuracy and service.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 3+ years in accounts receivable, accounts payable, premium accounting, general accounting, or related financial operations.
• Strong analytical, research, and reconciliation skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
• Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and independently research issues to resolution.

Responsibilities

• Premium Accounting & Reconciliation: process payments and balance to General Ledger.
• Manage suspense accounts and update payment methods with institutions.
• Ensure accurate billing across methods and code exceptions.
• Research and resolve missing cash receipts and adjustments.
• Research and resolve void checks related to refunds.
• Research, communicate, and resolve issues with policy payors and accounts.
• Maintain documentation of research, decisions, and adjustments.
• Ensure transactions follow accounting controls and procedures.
