Job summary

Walnut Avenue Family & Women’s Center in Santa Cruz, CA is seeking a Teacher for the PreK program. This onsite, 36-hour-per-week non-exempt position offers a competitive hourly wage of $27.22–$31.67 plus bilingual pay differential for English/Spanish.

Responsibilities include planning developmentally appropriate curriculum, ensuring safety, and supporting children, families, and staff while meeting Title 5 and licensing requirements. CPR/First Aid and verified credentials required.

Qualifications

• Must hold or be eligible for Title 5 Child Development Permit within 30 days of hire and meet ECE unit requirements.
• Must have six postsecondary units in ECE or related field and field experience; or AA in ECE with supervised experience.
• CPR and First Aid certification and health screening are required.

Responsibilities

• Plan and implement developmentally appropriate curriculum with team for language, literacy, math, social-emotional, science, and creativity.
• Monitor safety indoors/outdoors and ensure appropriate interactions per licensing rules.
• Engage with children using developmentally appropriate language and activities.
• Support children's basic needs (eating, sleeping, diapering, hygiene) and emotional needs.
• Lead daily circle times to promote cognitive growth and literacy; foster autonomy.
• Create an engaging classroom environment and promote anti-bias practices.
• Maintain confidentiality about children and families; seek supervisor support when needed.
• Collaborate with families to welcome and inform them about events and programs.
