The ideal candidate will assist with instructional activities, manage behavior under teacher direction, and help prepare materials while functioning as a school interpreter when needed. Compensation ranges from $13.83 to $20.77 per hour.

Qualifications

• Ability to work well with children.
• Proficient communication skills.
• Ability to operate computer using a variety of basic applications.
• Knowledge of general office equipment.
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred in some settings.

Responsibilities

• Assist the classroom teacher to provide for the physical and instructional needs of students.
• Assist in the implementation of classroom programs, including self-help, behavior management, and instruction.
• Work under the supervision of the principal and the immediate direction of a certified teacher.
• Work with individual students or small groups to conduct instructional exercises assigned by the teacher.
• Assist teachers in providing modified instruction for ESL students in inclusive settings.
• Assist with the administration and scoring of objective testing instruments or work assignments.
• Assist in supervising students throughout the school day, both inside and outside the classroom.
• Keep the teacher informed of any special needs or problems of individual students.
• Assist in keeping administrative records and preparing required reports.
• Assist in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays.
• Assist in maintaining a neat and orderly classroom.
• Assist in inventory, care, and maintenance of classroom equipment.
• Participate in staff development training programs, faculty meetings, and special events, as required.
• Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
• Serve as an interpreter in situations when one is needed.
• Assist students with activities of personal care which can include diapering, toileting, and/or dressing.
