Job summary

Wharton-Smith, Inc. is seeking a qualified Preconstruction Manager for our Sanford, FL office. This role leads design-phase cost estimates, reads plans and specs, and coordinates budgets for projects ranging from several million to over one hundred million dollars.

The ideal candidate has extensive estimating or field experience, strong communication, and proficiency with MS Office and MC2. Attendance at site locations is required, with reliable driving access to multiple job sites.

Qualifications

• 5–10 years estimating or field experience; field experience is a plus.
• Experience with hard bid municipal commercial projects.
• Ability to understand construction terminology.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
• Proficiency in MS Outlook, Word, Excel; MC2 knowledge preferred.
• Valid driver's license and ability to commute to job sites.

Responsibilities

• Estimate designs and lead the estimating group on design-phase cost estimates.
• Read drawings, geo-tech reports and specifications.
• Identify utility conflicts and bypass areas.
• Perform quantity take-off of pipe, appurtenances, concrete and sitework.
• Formulate unit prices as needed.
• Solicit subcontractor/supplier participation via phone or email.
• Write RFIs to engineers.
• Conduct scope analysis and estimate deficiencies as needed.
• Develop project RFQ and RFP; establish proposal databases.
• Create construction schedules for estimates in P6.
• Coordinate and establish the project budget (GMP).
• Handle projects ranging from 4M to 120M with hard deadlines; multi-task effectively.
• Develop and maintain long-term relationships with key vendors and subs.
• Participate in pre- and post-construction reviews.

Wharton-Smith, Inc., a highly regarded construction company, is seeking qualified candidates for a Preconstruction Manager position. This position is located in our office in Sanford, FL.

Primary Responsibilities

• Estimating and lead estimating group on design phase cost estimates
• Ability to read drawings, geo-tech reports and specifications.
• Identify Utility conflicts and Bypass areas.
• Perform quantity take-off of Pipe & Appurtenances/Concrete/Sitework, requiring quantity counts, linear quantity measurement.
• Ability to formulate a unit price as needed.
• Solicit Subcontractor/Supplier participation via phone and/or E-mail.
• Write RFI’s to Engineers.

Preferences/Qualifications
