Job summary

Brasfield & Gorrie, LLC in Birmingham seeks a Preconstruction Manager to lead complex estimating efforts across projects. You will develop conceptual through final design estimates, run bid and GMP processes, and coordinate with operations, design teams, and owners.

You will mentor junior estimators, establish schedules, review bids, and foster subcontractor relationships while leveraging tools like P6, BlueBeam, and Sage Timberline to drive accurate, competitive proposals.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in construction or related field, or equivalent construction experience.
• 3–10 years of estimating and/or PM experience in commercial, healthcare, or mission-critical projects.
• Excellent oral and interpersonal communication.
• Strong technical writing and conflict resolution skills.
• Ability to multitask and stay organized with an innovative mindset.

Responsibilities

• Perform complex estimating assignments and develop all levels of estimates.
• Execute estimates from conceptual through final design with benchmarks and value analysis.
• Understand and apply multiple delivery methods (hard bid, negotiated GMP, Design Build, IPD).
• Coordinate with operations on fees, staffing, and construction schedules.
• Establish schedule durations, attend scheduling meetings, and solicit subcontractor schedules.
• Communicate pricing requirements clearly to subcontractors and drive accurate estimates.
• Lead estimate reviews with PM, design team, and owners.
• Visit jobsites to verify estimate accuracy and impact.
• Assist marketing with proposal preparation.
• Develop subcontractor and supplier relationships.
• Maintain relationships with architects, owners, engineers, and clients for business development.
• Collaborate with Virtual Design on quantities, logistics, and 4D schedules.
• Provide leadership and mentoring to less experienced estimators.
• Gather historical data from past/on-going projects for future use.
