Job summary

HGC Construction in Columbus is seeking a Preconstruction Lead to own the preconstruction process across the Columbus market, guiding bid packages, scope development, and trade partner coordination to support early project goals.

You will work with clients, design partners, estimators, and operations to align scope, budget, schedule, and expectations from award through handoff, directing decisions and keeping projects moving.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering, or related field preferred.
• 5+ years of commercial construction experience in preconstruction or leadership roles.
• Experience on complex commercial or institutional projects.
• Strong understanding of the construction process from award to procurement and field execution.
• Knowledge of estimating principles, budgets, and scheduling.
• Experience coordinating with architects, engineers, subcontractors, and internal teams.
• Familiarity with CMAR, GMP, and Design-Build delivery methods.
• Strong communication, leadership, and relationship-building skills.
• Proactive, solutions-oriented mindset to move multiple projects forward.

Responsibilities

• Take ownership of the preconstruction process for Columbus market projects, driving planning, coordination, and execution from kickoff through handoff.
• Serve as primary contact for clients, design partners, and internal teams, maintaining alignment on goals, budget, scope, and schedule.
• Lead development and management of bid packages, defining scopes, coordinating across trades, and identifying risks.
• Partner with estimators to develop budgets and cost plans, maintaining ownership of overall process and client communication.
• Coordinate architects, engineers, consultants, and trade partners to drive design development and constructability reviews.
• Lead trade partner engagement, bid solicitation, scope reviews, and procurement planning.
• Drive preconstruction schedules and milestones, ensuring design deliverables, bidding, permitting, procurement, and requirements stay on track.
• Lead early project setup with operations to establish expectations and ensure teams have needed information and resources.
• Represent HGC Construction in client meetings and presentations, communicating budgets, strategies, challenges, and solutions.
• Create a seamless transition from preconstruction to operations with coordinated scopes, budgets, and schedules.
