Job summary

DN is seeking a Preconstruction Estimating Intern to gain hands-on experience in civil engineering and construction. You will work with a dedicated mentor on real projects, learning the lifecycle of heavy-civil construction from conception to completion at our Irving, TX office.

You will assist regional estimators with site conditions, takeoffs using Civil 3D, bid pricing, RFQ preparation, and visits to tank construction sites.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in an Engineering or Construction Management undergraduate program.
• Civil Engineering concentration preferred.
• Experience with CAD software (AutoCAD) and Microsoft Office (Word/Excel/Outlook).
• Excellent communication and time management skills.
• Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and work independently or in a team.
• Willing to relocate to Irving, TX.

Responsibilities

• Assist Regional Estimators with site condition evaluation and tank site layouts in AutoCAD.
• Prepare earthwork takeoffs using Civil 3D and sitework cost estimates in Excel.
• Solicit bid level pricing for cranes, rebar installation, fences and subs.
• Prepare Requests for Quotation after identifying local subs.
• Learn the process of developing and bidding construction projects.
• Visit local tank construction sites to gain hands-on exposure.

• Assist Regional Estimators with the evaluation of project site conditions and the generation of tank site layout drawings using AutoCAD.
• Prepare earthwork takeoffs using Civil 3D and sitework cost estimates using Excel.
• Solicit bid level pricing for cranes, rebar installation, fence work, and various other subcontractor scopes of work.
• Preparation of Requests for Quotation after local subcontractors have been identified.
• Gain insight into the process of developing and bidding construction projects.
• Opportunities to visit our local tank construction sites.
• Currently enrolled in an Engineering or Construction Management undergraduate program. A concentration in Civil Engineering is preferred.
• Experience working with CAD software (preferably AutoCAD) and Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, and Excel).
• Excellent communication and time management skills.
• Ability to multi-task and prioritize work assignments.
• Ability to problem-solve in individual and team settings.
• Ability to work out of or relocate to our office in Irving, TX.
