Job summary

The Austin Company invites qualified professionals to join our team in California as Director of Preconstruction Services. You will partner with Project Planning and Project Executives to lead preconstruction efforts, develop estimates, and support sales with constructability reviews.

Expect involvement in budgeting, risk assessment, and coordination across design, engineering, and operations to ensure value-driven solutions. Strong Excel, communication, and leadership skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Requires a 4-year degree in Construction Engineering/Management/Estimating or similar, 10+ years in commercial/industrial construction proposal assembly, and 5+ years supervisory experience OR 15+ years equivalent education/experience.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills are mandatory.
• Experience leading bids/proposals up to $300M and knowledge of construction processes with on-site experience.

Responsibilities

• Assist in daily management, supervision, coordination, and completion of preconstruction phase to meet contracting, scheduling, estimating, and bidding objectives.
• Oversee development of construction estimates including general conditions, insurance, taxes and bonding; prepare final estimate summaries and cost analyses.
• Support sales efforts, collaborate with design/engineering to align design with budget, and provide constructability reviews.
• Assign preconstruction management support, oversee procurement strategies, and review subcontractor bids and market.
• Visit ongoing projects to verify estimate vs. status, mitigate risks, and stay updated on construction costs and materials.
