We are currently recruiting for a Preconstruction Designer to join our team in one of our regional office locations (Bloomfield CT., Miramar FL., Mendota Heights MN., or Portland OR.).

Job Summary

Supports Precon activities primarily through conceptual design and drafting submittal packages. Additional multidisciplinary involvement in Precon activities such as engineering, 3D modeling, code and spec review, wire frame and take offs are expected, along with close coordination with site and production teams for designs that are efficient for fabrication, assembly, and installation requirements. The coordinated designs and solutions are to be documented for use by project teams after award and/or for reference on future Precon work.

This role requires a combination of technical proficiency, a willingness to work on multi-disciplinary activities, be a strong team player, sufficient experience and thoroughness in conceptual vetting of designs, and a focus on delivering project specific and winning solutions. It is expected that individuals in this role show a willingness to embrace new technologies, tools and software to support the process of quoting and bidding work.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver coordinated design concepts that fulfill the architectural intent, required specifications and project conditions using both proven and innovative solutions.
  • Prepare complete bid submittals, adhering to pertinent PNA standards, inclusive of drawings, calculations, scope of work, means and methods, etc.
  • As needed, present concepts to design teams and participate in bid interviews.
  • Work as part of a small team, supporting each other with multidisciplinary skills (e.g. glass deflection, takeoffs, acoustics & thermal performance, sustainability decisions, manufacturing impacts, site impacts, etc.).
  • Participate in initiatives under the discretion of the Sales manager for developing concepts and solutions for future projects.
  • Participate in trade shows, vendor visits, client relations, and other sales opportunities per the discretion of the Sales manager.
  • Document and prepare for effective handover post-award.
Minimum qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, or Associate’s degree (with relevant experience) in Architecture, Mechanical Engineering or Civil Engineering
  • 5+Years of relevant work experience At least 3 years of curtain wall design and 5 years of specific industry expereince)
  • Well versed with 2-D and 3-D design software including but not limited to AutoCAD, CATIA
  • Knowledge of engineering calculations (Building Physics, Structural Engineering, Carbon/Environmental, etc)
Preferred qualifications
  • Experience in other relevant computer software such as Rhinoceros, Revit, Inventor, GSA, would be an advantage
  • Confident decision making (Competent)
  • Strategic creative thinking ability (Competent)
  • Articulate narration and presentation skills (Competent)
  • CAD (Proficient)
  • 3D Design Modeling (Beginner/Competent)
  • Revit/Rhino/BIM (Beginner/Competent)
