Job summary

Permasteelisa North America is hiring a Building Physicist Engineer [Thermal] to join our team across multiple U.S. office locations. The role focuses on thermal and acoustic performance, 2D/3D simulations, and NFRC coordination for curtain wall projects.

Responsibilities include modeling, code compliance, and collaboration with Clients, Architects, and Suppliers to ensure high-performance facade designs and successful AHJ approvals.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree in Architecture, Civil/Structural/Mechanical Engineering/Physics is required.
  • 3-5+ years’ experience in building physics, thermal modeling, or façade engineering.
  • NFRC Certified Simulator is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Check adequacy of thermal, acoustic and performance-based requirements in the specification and provide feedback to tender department and client.
  • Liaise with Client/Builder, Consultants and Architect to ensure adequacy of specifications and compliance with codes.
  • Perform advanced 2D and 3D thermal simulations for building envelope details and analyze interfaces for thermal bridging, condensation risk, and thermal shock.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of regional energy codes and sustainability standards (e.g., ASHRAE 90.1, IECC, local stretch codes).
  • Ensure facade designs meet or exceed regulatory and project-specific performance criteria.
  • Confirm compliance of thermal, acoustic and performance-based design through tests or calculations and coordinate with suppliers.
  • Provide acoustic assessments of glazing assemblies and facade systems; advise on acoustics and fire performance when necessary.
  • Manage end-to-end product certification by thermal simulations and NFRC validation coordination and AHJ submissions.
  • Develop internal modeling templates, calculation tools, and scripts to streamline workflow.
  • Attend and supervise performance mock-up sites before and during testing.
  • Coordinate with Technical/Project Manager to ensure application of engineering aspects to site installation and changes due to As-Built conditions.
  • Visit sites to ensure proper execution of all aspects.
  • Share duties for implementing the AA/EEO program and safety policies.

We are hiring for a Building Physicist Engineer [Thermal] to join our team (in our Bloomfield CT, Mendota Heights MN, Seal Beach CA, Portland Oregon, Miramar FL Office Locations).

Responsibilities
  • To check the adequacy of thermal, acoustic and performance-based requirements set in the specification and feedback to tender department and the client.
  • To liaise with the Client / Builder, the Consultants and Architect to ensure the adequacy of the specification set, to verify all the necessary requirements for the Curtain Wall design comply with the project specifications and relevant codes.
  • Perform advanced 2D and 3D thermal simulations for complex building envelope details and atypical conditions. Analyze project-specific interfaces for thermal bridging, condensation risk, and thermal shock.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of regional energy codes and sustainability standards (e.g., ASHRAE 90.1, IECC, local stretch codes). Ensure all facade designs meet or exceed regulatory and project-specific performance criteria.
  • Confirm the compliance of thermal, acoustic and performance based design through tests and/or calculations conducted and documented in a clear manor. Review material data sheets and coordinate with glass/component suppliers.
  • Provide acoustic assessments of glazing assemblies and overall facade systems. Or advise on calculation for acoustics and fire performance when necessary.
  • Manage the end‑to‑end product certification pipeline by performing thermal performance simulations, coordinating with NFRC validation channels, and preparing technical submittal packages to secure approval from the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ).
  • Contribute to continuous improvement by developing internal modeling templates, calculation tools, and scripts to streamline workflow efficiency.
  • Attend and supervise performance mock up sites prior and during testing as needed.
  • To coordinate with the Technical Manager and/or Project Manager to ensure that thermal, acoustics and performance‑based engineering aspects are applied to site installation and erection and to assist in resolving alternations to any design change due to “As‑Built” conditions.
  • Visit sites as needed to ensure that all aspects have been executed correctly.
  • Any other tasks assigned by regional Building Physics Principal Engineer.

Requirements
  • Bachelor degree in Architecture, Civil/Structural/Mechanical Engineering/Physics
  • 3-5+ years’ experience in building physics, thermal modeling, or façade engineering
  • NFRC Certified Simulator *preferred*
Skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Especially Excel) and BlueBeam
  • Must have working knowledge of AutoCAD and/or Solidworks/Inventor
  • Proficiency in standard thermal/optical software: THERM, WINDOW, and Optics.
  • Experience with 3D thermal software: Trisco, Bisco, or similar is a plus.
