Job summary

McKenney's, Inc. in Charlotte, NC is offering a Mechanical/Industrial Engineering Co-op. You will join the Preconstruction team from day one, assisting estimators and sales engineers and working with vendors to prepare quotes.

You will gain hands-on experience reviewing drawings, developing estimates, and creating labor/material reports using FastPIPE, FastDUCT, and Bluebeam. Two rotations are planned for Spring 2027 and Fall 2027.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in a Co-op program at an accredited engineering school majoring in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering, Construction Management, or a related degree.
• Must complete two full-time, alternating or sequential Co-op rotations before graduation.
• Rotation schedule: 1st Rotation Spring 2027; 2nd Rotation Fall 2027.

Responsibilities

• Assist Estimators and Sales Engineers in all phases of the bid process.
• Coordinate with vendors and subcontractors to solicit material and equipment quotes.
• Manage and organize construction documents.
• With Preconstruction team—review project drawings and specifications to develop estimates and proposals.
• Use our software tools (FastPIPE, FastDUCT, Bluebeam) to produce labor and materials reports.
• Support Preconstruction tech initiatives, including RPAs and data capture.
• Attend jobsite walks to track and measure estimate performance.
• Foster relationships with profit centers and represent the Preconstruction department.
