Job summary

McKenney's is seeking a Mechanical/Industrial Engineering co-op in Charlotte, NC. You will join our preconstruction team from day one, receive training, and work on important projects that influence bid outcomes.

A successful Co-op will demonstrate initiative, teamwork, and the ability to estimate scopes of work, coordinate with vendors, and support operations during estimating and turnover. Many past Co-ops advance to leadership roles.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in a Co-op program at an accredited engineering school (Mechanical or Industrial Engineering, Construction Management, or related degree).
• Must complete at least two full-time, alternating or sequential Co-op rotations before graduation.
• Rotations: Spring 2027 and Fall 2027.

Responsibilities

• Assist Estimators and Sales Engineers in all phases of the bid process.
• Coordinate with vendors and subcontractors to solicit material and equipment quotes.
• Manage and organize construction documents.
• Review project drawings and specs with Preconstruction to develop estimates and proposals.
• Use software tools (FastPIPE, FastDUCT, Bluebeam) to produce labor and materials reports.
• Support Preconstruction initiatives, including RPAs and data capture.
• Attend jobsite walks to track and measure estimate performance.
• Foster relationships with profit centers and represent the Preconstruction department.
