Job summary

Aerotek is seeking a Welder for a manufacturing environment. You will perform MIG (GMAW) and stick (SMAW) welding, read blueprints, set up equipment, and ensure welds meet quality standards.

You will read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings, set up and operate welding equipment, and ensure welds meet standards, contributing to safe, efficient production by inspecting parts and following safety practices.

Qualifications

• Experience with GMAW (MIG) and SMAW (stick) welding.
• Ability to read blueprints and technical drawings.
• Maintain safety and housekeeping in manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform welding using GMAW (MIG) and SMAW (stick) in accordance with blueprint and technical drawing specifications.
• Read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings to determine welding requirements, dimensions, and tolerances.
• Inspect parts and weld components to ensure they meet blueprint specifications and quality standards.
• Obtain specified electrodes and insert them into portable holders, or thread consumable electrode wire through portable welding guns as required.
• Connect cables from welding units and set amperage, voltage, slope, and pulse according to instructions from Welding Engineers or Welding Technicians.
• Strike and maintain a stable arc to generate heat, melt, and deposit metal from the electrode to the workpiece, ensuring proper fusion and joint quality.
• Manually guide the electrode or welding gun along the weld line, maintaining consistent arc length and travel speed to achieve the required depth of fusion and weld bead.
• Monitor the weld by observing metal color, listening to weld sound, and watching the size of the molten puddle to ensure proper weld quality.
• Perform welding in flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions as required by the job.
• Examine completed welds for bead size, appearance, and adherence to specifications, and make adjustments as needed.
• Apply filler rod manually when required to supply additional weld metal and achieve proper joint strength.
