Job summary

Diversatech Metalfab in Illinois is seeking a hands-on Fitter/Welder to join our fabrication crew. This role focuses on fabricating and welding structural steel to blueprints with attention to detail and pride in craftsmanship.

Qualifications

• No experience required, training from the ground up.
• Familiarity with common shop tools and fabrication equipment is a plus.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and basic math for measurement and layout.
• Ability to read a standard tape measure and work to close tolerances.
• Lift 50–75 lbs safely, climb ladders, and stand for a full shift.
• Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently or in a team.

Responsibilities

• Fit, tack, and weld structural steel to blueprint specifications.
• Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and drawings.
• Perform MIG welding and plasma cutting as required.
• Measure, cut, grind, and prepare materials for welding and assembly.
• Complete layout and fit-up work from shop drawings with precision.
• Inspect welds and fit-ups for quality and structural integrity.
• Operate fabrication equipment and hand tools safely and efficiently.
• Rig material and operate overhead cranes, forklifts, and material-handling equipment as needed.
• Follow safety procedures and coordinate with team to hit production goals.
• Keep work area clean and organized.
