Job summary

Nidec in Lexington, TN, seeks a skilled machinist to build and repair tooling using blueprints, micrometers, and CNC equipment. Requires a high school diploma and 3–5 years of hands-on machining experience, with the ability to read drawings and perform precision measurements.

You will work under supervision, fabricate tooling and fixtures, and maintain safety practices. Trade/technical schooling is preferred; knowledge of imperial and metric units is essential.

Qualifications

  • Read micrometer, vernier caliper, indicators, and have a working knowledge of trigonometry.
  • Understand simple and complex drawings and interpret geometric tolerances.
  • Experience with manual and CNC lathes, mills, grinders, MIG & TIG welding.
  • Proficient in Imperial and Metric measurements.
  • Ability to work from engineering sketches and/or examples to fabricate tooling and fixturing.

Responsibilities

  • Produces new tooling to print specifications as well as repair existing tooling.
  • Services and repairs notching, single hit and progressive dies.
  • Services tooling throughout plant.
  • Exercise good housekeeping in work area.
  • Observe good safety practices.
  • Performs other job duties as assigned by Supervisor or Team Leader.

Job Description

Builds and repairs machine shop tools using machining operations and measuring instruments. Works from blueprints and sketches to create or modify tools, dies, jigs and molds. Requires a high school diploma or its equivalent. May be required to complete an apprenticeship and/or formal training in area of specialty with 0-2 years of experience in the field or in a related area. Has knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. Works under immediate supervision. Primary job functions do not typically require exercising independent judgment. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager.
