Job summary

Morton Industries, LLC is seeking a Tool Room Machine Operator to perform complex setups and machining from blueprints to produce precision tooling and fixtures. This role requires strong machining knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision while upholding safety and quality standards.

You will review drawings, plan layouts, prepare stock, set up and operate manual lathes, mills, and grinders, and verify tolerances with precision instruments.

Qualifications

• Reads blueprints, sketches, models, and specifications to determine materials, dimensions, and operations.
• Uses precision measuring instruments to verify tolerances and alignment for close tolerance parts.
• Sets up and operates manual machine tools (lathes, mills, shapers, grinders) and assembles machined components.
• Maintains safe, clean, organized work area and follows safety procedures.
• Able to work independently with minimal supervision while collaborating with Engineering and Quality teams.

Responsibilities

• Review blueprints and specifications to determine machining requirements and sequence of operations.
• Plan layouts and select appropriate machining, fabrication, and assembly methods.
• Measure, mark, and prepare metal stock for machining.
• Set up and operate manual machine tools including lathes, milling machines, shapers, and grinders.
• Machine components to specified dimensions and surface finishes with close tolerances.
• Inspect dies, tools, jigs, and fixtures and recommend improvements.
• Maintain equipment, tooling, and work areas in safe condition.
• Follow all safety, quality, and operating procedures.
