Job summary

Glidewell Dental in Irvine, CA is seeking a skilled machinist to set up machine tools, run lathes and mills, and produce precision parts to tight tolerances. You will inspect parts with micrometers and calipers, read blueprints, and select tools and materials to achieve specification conformance.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years of setup experience, technical schooling or equivalent apprenticeship, and a strong focus on safety and quality.

Qualifications

Graduate of technical school or completion of an in-company training program.
Minimum five (5) year set-up experience as a machinist.

Responsibilities

Set up machines per prints and specifications to very close tolerances.
Produce basic precision items beyond the capabilities of production operators.
Machine parts to specifications using lathes, milling machines, shapers, or grinders.
Measure, examine, and test completed units to detect defects and ensure conformity.
Set up, adjust, and operate basic machine tools and related tools to perform precision machining operations.
Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, and materials onto machines.
Monitor feed and speed of machines during machining.
Study samples, blueprints, and engineering data to determine methods and sequences of operations.
Select tools, machines, and materials for machining work.
Lay out and mark metal stock for cuts.
Observe and listen to machines to diagnose malfunctions and determine repairs.
Operate common machine shop equipment and hand tools.
Work from prints/drawings to produce a variety of items.
Follow safety rules and lock-out/tag-out procedures.
