Qualifications

  • PharmD or BS Pharmacy degree required.

  • Oncology pharmacy residency or PGY2 in pharmacogenomics and/or Board Certification in Oncology Pharmacy preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret molecular testing results and recommend biomarker-targeted therapies across UNC Health sites.
  • Provide pharmacogenetic drug-gene interaction guidance to physicians.
  • Collaborate with physicians to determine appropriate treatment plans and ensure guideline-concordant care.

Summary

The University of North Carolina Hospitals' Oncology Pharmacy Team has an opening for a Precision Oncology Pharmacist to support UNC Health Oncology Practices across the state of North Carolina. The pharmacist will work as part of the Precision Oncology Program within in the UNC Health Cancer Service line to support quality initiatives ensuring guideline-concordant use of precision oncology across the UNC Health system through clinical reviews of solid tumor oncology patients, molecular tumor board participation, recommendation of biomarker-testing vendors and tests, optimization of molecular testing workflows, targeted pharmacogenetic implementations, and stewardship initiatives.

Responsibilities
1. Clinical Responsibilities
  • Work with precision oncology program team to interpret and evaluate molecular testing results for solid tumor oncology patients. Recommends biomarker selective therapies as part of reflexive expert clinical reviews and molecular tumor board consultations across UNC Health sites that span the state of North Carolina.
  • Provide information on pharmacogenetic drug-gene interactions to physicians.
  • Builds a clinical practice that collaborates with physicians and providers to care for clinic patients. Works closely with clinic physicians and providers to determine appropriate treatment plans.
  • Aligns daily practice with medication management goals set forth by the institution or pharmacy director, including medication use evaluations and medication reconciliation.
  • Educates staff on guideline updates and practice advancements associated with precision medicine in oncology.
2. Precepting/Teaching/Scholarly activities
  • Educates UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy students and UNC Medical Center pharmacy residents on experiential rotations.
  • Educates clinic staff on guideline updates and practice advancements.
  • Serves as a standing committee member on select groups of committees within UNC Health.
  • Conducts research; prepares and submits manuscripts for publication.
3. Leadership
  • Provides instruction to physicians, nurses, ancillaries, residents and/or students including but not limited to precepting, shadowing, lectures, in-services and CE.
  • Develops programs/lectures and participates in community outreach programs.
4. Quality
  • Engages in continuous quality improvement by identifying and implementing processes for improvement.
  • Leads quality improvement initiatives.
  • Consults with management in assessment, problem-solving, decision-making, and evaluating clinical/system issues and models of care.
  • Develops new clinical programs or services within the clinic/department to improve patient care.

  • PharmD or BS Pharmacy Degree
Licensure/Certification Requirements
  • Active pharmacist licensure with the NC Board of Pharmacy or obtainable before initiation of employment. Recent graduates of ACPE-accredited colleges/schools of pharmacy may fill this role while pending initial pharmacist licensure, but are subject to limitations mandated by the NC Board of Pharmacy and must obtain licensure within 6 months of orientation or sooner if required for operations.
Professional Experience Requirements
Required
  • Licensure or license-eligible as a pharmacist in the State of North Carolina
  • Doctor of Pharmacy Degree from an accredited college or university or equivalent degree
Preferred
  • Completion of a Pharmacy Practice (PGY1) Residency or equivalent experience
  • Completion of an Oncology or Pharmacogenomics (PGY2) Pharmacy Residency or equivalent experience
  • Board Certification in Oncology Pharmacy
Knowledge/Skills/and Abilities Requirements
  • Extensive clinical skills and pharmacotherapy knowledge base in Hematology/Oncology
  • Strong oral and written communication, organizational, and prioritization skills
  • Ability to work in team environment
  • Ability to generate meaningful contributions related to hematology/oncology and advancement of pharmacy practice.
  • Ability to design and implement projects and collect and interpret data accurately
