Job summary

IFAB Corp. in Gastonia, NC, seeks a Metrology Technician to join the Quality team. You will perform dimensional and visual inspections of automotive components using precision metrology equipment to ensure GD&T and IATF 16949 compliance, supporting PPAP and 5S initiatives.

The role requires 2+ years in automotive metrology, strong blueprint reading, and hands‑on CMM experience (Zeiss/Hexagon/Mitutoyo). Lab and floor exposure, with occasional travel to suppliers or customers.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; technical trade cert or Associate degree preferred.
• 2+ years in automotive manufacturing inspection or metrology.
• Strong knowledge of GD&T and blueprint reading.
• Hands‑on experience with CMMs (operator level minimum) and measuring tools.
• Familiarity with IATF 16949, APQP, PPAP, and SPC fundamentals.
• Ability to perform Gauge R&R (MSA) studies.

Responsibilities

• Dimensional & visual inspection of automotive components using CMM, height gauges, calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, and optical comparators.
• Read blueprints and GD&T symbols to determine measurement methods and acceptance criteria.
• Operate CMM equipment (Zeiss, Hexagon, Mitutoyo), load programs, verify alignments, and ensure readings.
• Complete dimensional reports, capability studies (Cp/Cpk), and non‑conformance reports; assist PPAP documentation.
• Conduct routine calibration checks and maintain inspection equipment per IATF 16949.
• Support root cause analysis (5‑Why, Fishbone) for non-conformances and maintain 5S on inspection areas.
