State of Indiana’s Indiana Department of Health is seeking a Metrology Lab Manager to lead Indiana’s State Metrology Laboratory, working directly with NIST and NVLAP programs to advance measurement science.

You will perform precision calibrations of mass and other standards, certify volume measurements, maintain the lab and its standards, develop procedures, prepare calibration reports, and provide technical support to inspectors and industry technicians, with occasional travel for training and

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in the physical sciences or a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience, plus NIST Metrologist certification and/or at least two (2) years of comparable experience.

Responsibilities

• Perform precision calibrations of mass standards using sophisticated weighing designs and precision equipment.
• Certify the accuracy of volume measurements by displacement and gravimetric methods.
• Calibrate all state and local department weighing and measuring devices every two years.
• Maintain the State Metrology Laboratory and its service programs with NIST standards and support inspectors and industry technicians.
• Prepare calibration reports and statistics for NIST/NVLAP as required.
• Develop measurement techniques meeting NIST requirements.
