Job summary

Fermilab is seeking a Mechanical Technician to provide complex technical support for experimental or support groups. The role involves fabricating, assembling, calibrating, testing, and repairing a wide range of mechanical and electrical equipment, following drawings and instructions.

Safety, ES&H duties, and environment surveys are part of the responsibilities. The candidate should have a HS degree or technical certificate, 3+ years of mechanical systems experience, and proficiency with power

Qualifications

• HS degree (or technical certificate or equivalent).
• 3+ years of extensive experience with mechanical systems; military training may substitute.
• Proficient with safe use of hand-held power tools and hand tools (tubing cutters, benders).
• Experience with brazing and soldering of copper tubing and components preferred.
• Proficient with Windows PC environment; MS Word and Excel.

Responsibilities

• Fabricate, assemble, install, and remove mechanical/electrical parts per drawings and specs.
• Assist in construction, calibration, and assembly of equipment.
• Prepare and test equipment for operation.
• Maintain inventories of parts and supplies.
