Job summary

Jasper Engines & Transmissions is seeking a Manual Machinist to set up and operate conventional machine tools, interpreting blueprints and producing precision parts to customer specs. The role requires strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and independent work on a range of machining projects.

Responsibilities include reading blueprints, selecting materials, setting up lathes and mills, and performing precision turning, milling, and finishing operations with tight tolerances.

Qualifications

• Prior experience operating manual lathes and/or milling machines preferred but not required
• Proficiency with precision measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, T-gauges)
• Ability to read blueprints and technical drawings

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and part specifications
• Set up and operate manual lathes, milling machines, and other shop equipment
• Perform precision machining to tight tolerances (up to .0001")
• Install and secure vises, fixtures, jigs, and workpieces using hoists as needed
• Operate machine controls to remove material according to specifications
• Use precision measuring instruments to verify accuracy
• Maintain a clean and organized work area throughout the shift
• Identify different types of metals and materials used in machining
• Interpret CAD drawings and create basic part sketches when needed
• Overtime available
