Job summary

Ingersoll Rand is seeking a Moody, AL-based Machinist to shape critical components on precision manual lathes and boring mills. On-site, Monday–Friday, 6:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m., you will set up large Vertical & Horizontal Lathes, inspect parts with precision tools, and rebuild large Liquid Ring Vacuum Pumps and compressors to exact tolerances.

You will interpret blueprints, select cutting tools, and manage speeds/feeds to achieve required finishes, while safely handling heavy components with cranes

Qualifications

• 3+ years as a machine operator/machinist.
• 2+ years reading and interpreting blueprints.
• 1+ year on king-style boring mills or VTLs.
• Hands-on with manual VTLs, boring mills, and horizontal lathes.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate large Vertical & Horizontal Lathes to repair and overhaul large Liquid Ring Vacuum Pumps & Compressors.
• Interpret blueprints/drawings; measure with micrometers, vernier calipers, dial indicators, and other precision instruments.
• Maintain precise tolerances, at times as tight as 0.0005".
• Select appropriate tools for metals; determine speeds/feeds for proper finishes.
• Operate forklifts and overhead cranes safely; follow EH&S and QMS processes.
• Lift/rig heavy components; assist with disassembly, reassembly, repair, and rebuilding of large pumps.
• Overtime during the week and some weekends to meet deadlines.

Shape Critical Components as a Precision Manual Lathe & Boring Mill MachinistLocation: Moody, AL (On-site)Schedule: Monday–Friday, 6:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m.A day in this roleStart your shift setting up large Liquid Ring Vacuum Pump components, dialing in your Vertical and Horizontal Lathes, and reviewing prints for critical dimensions. You’ll select cutting tools, set speeds and feeds to achieve the right surface finish, and hold ultra-tight tolerances—down to 0.0005" when required. Throughout the day, you’ll rig and move heavy parts using overhead cranes and forklifts, follow EH&S and QMS procedures, and collaborate with a team that takes pride in rebuilding large Liquid Ring Vacuum Pumps and compressors to exacting standards.
