Job summary

Ingersoll Rand Moody, AL is seeking a skilled Manual Machinist on 2nd shift to operate and set up large lathes and related equipment. The role emphasizes precision, safety, and adherence to EH&S and QMS processes while supporting pump and compressor components.

Candidates should have 3+ years as a machinist, blueprints reading, and experience with King-style boring mills or VTLs. On-site work with potential overtime, and a $3,500 sign-on bonus for eligible hires.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience as a machine operator or machinist.
• 2+ years reading and interpreting blueprints.
• 1+ years operating King-style boring mills and/or vertical turning lathes (VTLs).
• Ability to read precision measuring tools and maintain tight tolerances.

Responsibilities

• Sets up large pump components and operates vertical/horizontal lathes to repair and overhaul pumps and compressors.
• Interprets blueprints to determine critical dimensions and reads micrometers, calipers, and dial indicators.
• Maintains tolerances as tight as .0005 inches when required.
• Selects cutting tools and determines speeds and feeds for proper finish.
• Overtime possible; may work evenings or weekends.
• Operates forklift and overhead crane safely; adheres to EH&S & QMS.
• Lifts and rigs heavy components and assists disassembly and rebuilding tasks.
• Cross-trains in Fabrication, Assembly, or Rotar Balancing.
• Other duties as assigned.

$3,500 Sign-On Bonus paid over 24 months for eligible new hires.

Responsibilities

• Performs set ups of large Liquid Ring Vacuum Pump components and operations of large Vertical & Horizontal Lathes used to repair and overhaul Large Liquid Rind Vacuum Pumps & Compressors.
• Interprets blueprints/drawings to determine critical dimensions, etc. Ability to read Micrometers, Vernier Calipers, Dial Indicators & other precision measuring & test equipment as required.
• Able to maintain low tolerances as indicated by specifications or drawings as low as .0005” at times.
• Understands how to select appropriate cutting tools for various metals. Understands how to determine speeds and feeds to obtain proper surface finish.
• Able to work overtime; typically, throughout the week and occasionally on weekends.
• Safe operation of Forklift within a Machine Shop environment. Safe Over Head Crane operation. Adheres to all company EH&S & QMS processes.
• Lifting and rigging of heavy components of various configurations & weights. Assisting in the disassembly, reassembly, repair and rebuilding of Large Liquid Ring Vacuum Pumps.
• Opportunities to cross train in different areas as necessary, such as: Fabrication, Assembly, Rotar Balancing, etc.
• Other responsibilities as assigned

Requirements

• Applicants will be required to demonstrate knowledge of machine setup, as well as usage of machine controls and capabilities.
• 3+ years of experience as a machine operator/Machinist.
• 2+ or more years of experience reading and interpreting blueprints.
• 1+ years of experience operating King-style boring mills and/or vertical turning lathes (VTLs).
• Ability to effectively and safely use a variety of tools and equipment, including but not limited to depth gauges, bore gauges, height gauges, feeler gauges, micrometers, calipers, deburring tools, die grinders, drill presses, and overhead lifting equipment.

• Proficiency with prioritizing and meeting multiple deadlines.
• Ability to convert between metric and US standard units of measure.
• Ability to deal with problems involving several variables
• Ability to use standard problem-solving methods (i.e. 5 Whys) as trained
• Ability to effectively share information about job duties in one-on-one and small group situations to supervisor, customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Preferences

• HS Diploma or GED preferred. Higher Education or certificate is a plus.
• Experience with manual machining such as VTL/Boring Mill/ or Horizontal Lathe. Brands would include but not limited to Cincinnati and King brand.
• Proven ability to set up and operate Manual Machines, work centers, specializing in tool changes and in-process offset adjustments.

• This position will be based 100% onsite at our Moody, AL facility
