Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience as a machinist or machine operator.
• 2+ years reading and interpreting blueprints.
• Knowledge of machine setup and operation.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate manual machines to repair and overhaul large pump components.
• Read blueprints and use measuring tools to maintain tolerances as low as 0.0005 inches.
• Select cutting tools and set speeds/feeds for proper surface finish.
• Operate forklift and overhead crane safely; follow EH&S and QMS processes.

Job Overview

Are you a skilled machinist with a passion for precision and innovation? We are seeking a talented Manual Machinist to join our team. This role involves setting up and operating manual machines to repair and overhaul large Liquid Ring Vacuum Pump components and related equipment, with a focus on precision and safety.

Responsibilities

• Perform setups of large Liquid Ring Vacuum Pump components and operate large vertical and horizontal lathes to repair and overhaul pumps and compressors.
• Interpret blueprints/drawings to determine critical dimensions and read measuring tools (micrometers, vernier calipers, dial indicators, etc.).
• Maintain tolerances as specified, sometimes as low as 0.0005 inches.
• Select appropriate cutting tools and determine speeds and feeds for proper surface finish.
• Work overtime as needed, including occasional weekends.
• Operate forklift and overhead crane safely; adhere to EH&S and QMS processes.
• Lifting and rigging of heavy components; assist in disassembly, repair, and rebuilding of large pumps.
• Other responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of machine setup and operation, and use of machine controls.
• 3+ years of experience as a machinist or machine operator.
• 2+ years of experience reading and interpreting blueprints.
• 1+ year of experience with king-style boring mills (or VTLs).
• Experience with tools and equipment such as depth gauges, bore gauges, height gauges, feeler gauges, micrometers, calipers, deburring tools, die grinders, drill presses, and overhead lifting equipment.

Core Competencies

• Ability to prioritize and meet multiple deadlines.
• Ability to convert between metric and US standard units.
• Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to handle multiple variables.
• Use standard problem-solving methods (e.g., 5 Whys) as trained.
• Effective communication of job duties in one-on-one and small group settings.

Preferences

• HS Diploma or GED preferred; higher education or certificates are a plus.
• Experience with manual machining such as VTL/boring mill or horizontal lathe (brands like Cincinnati or King).
• Proven ability to set up and operate manual machines, work centers, and perform tool changes and in-process offset adjustments.

Travel & Work Arrangements

• This position is based 100% onsite at our Moody, AL facility.
