Job summary

SpaceX in Texas is seeking a skilled Machinist to produce precision parts for tooling assemblies and ground support equipment, ensuring parts meet specifications. Responsibilities include studying blueprints, setting up and operating manual mills and lathes, and inspecting parts with micrometers and CMMs.

The role demands bending to Lean manufacturing principles and teamwork in a fast-paced launch environment.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalency certificate.
2+ years of experience setting up and operating manual mills and lathes.
1+ years of experience operating a CNC machine.
Experience with the operation of drill presses, grinders, and other related equipment.
Ability to work independently and in a team setting.
Aptitude in spatial reasoning, attention to detail, and skilled craftsmanship.
Experience with open setup inspection, including the use of manual inspection tools as well as coordinate measuring machines (CMMs) or other automated inspection equipment.
Experience and understanding of Lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, etc.
Proficiency in single-point threading techniques on manual lathes to create precise threads on a range of materials, following engineering drawings and specifications.
Ability to accurately center and indicate workpieces on a manual lathe with a four-jaw chuck.
Experience with nickel-based alloys.

Responsibilities

Study parts and drawings to determine operations and tolerances, producing parts to specifications.
Support metalworking projects from planning through inspection and testing.
Machine precision fixtures, tools, and products from drawings, with limited supervision.
Set up machines to precise tolerances and operate various types of machinery.
Measure and inspect parts using micrometers, surface plates, and other inspection equipment.
Set up and operate mills, lathes, saws, etc.
Clean and maintain machines, tools, and equipment.
Demonstrate continuous effort to improve operations and streamline processes.
Perform other related duties to ensure efficient operations.
