Qualifications

  • High school diploma/GED plus three years as a machinist or instrument maker beyond apprentice level.
  • Experience with precision measuring devices and machine tools (lathe, milling machines, shaper, planer, drill press, welding).
  • Preferred: proficiency with Outlook, Excel and Access.

Responsibilities

  • Operates lathes and milling machines to create instruments from designs.
  • Lay out and plan fabrication processes and implement designs.
  • Measure and assemble parts; attach electronics to conform to standards.
  • Assist researchers in planning overall design, development and use.
