Job summary

Rust Belt Recruiting in Akron, Ohio, seeks a Grinding Machinist to set up and operate precision grinding equipment (ID/OD, rotary, and surface) to produce high-tolerance parts according to drawings and production schedules. Qualifications

• Strong experience setting up and operating internal and external cylindrical grinders.
• Knowledge of FANUC controls and program editing at the machine.
• Able to read blueprints, GD&T, and shop routings.
• Experience with carbon steels, alloy steels, stainless steel, bronze, and hardened materials.

Responsibilities

• Mount, true, dress, and balance abrasive wheels and set up workholding fixtures.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T callouts, job packets, and surface finish requirements.
• Select appropriate grinding wheels based on material properties and finish.
• Set up workholding including magnetic chucks, collets, steady rests, and fixtures.
• Run production to routed cycle times while monitoring for wheel loading and size drift.
• Edit FANUC control programs at the machine to correct offsets and speeds.
• Inspect in-process work using micrometers, air gauges, bore gauges, indicators, and surface finish instruments.
• Create and maintain setup sheets, wheel specifications, and offset documentation.
• Perform routine machine maintenance, manage coolant quality, and uphold 5S standards.
• Cross-train on rotary and surface grinding equipment with proper safety guidelines.
