Job summary

PCC Structurals is seeking a skilled grinder/inspector to remove surface and subsurface defects from castings and bring them to blueprint tolerances. You will review inspection paperwork, grind defect areas, and blend welds to specified dimensions while ensuring compliance with safety rules and quality standards.

The role involves dimensional verification with micrometers/calipers and performing penetrant inspections to verify defect removal.

Qualifications

Grinding skills and working knowledge of grinding tools, equipment, and materials.
Basic ability to follow instructions, read, and perform arithmetic calculations.
Ability to use and read dimensional tools including calipers, gauges, and micrometers.
Ability to read, interpret, and follow specifications on Tech Cards and Process Control Procedures.
Ability to lift and/or maneuver objects weighing 30 to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 80 pounds.
Ability to work in difficult working conditions including noise, dust, chemicals, temperature extremes, awkward positions.

Responsibilities

Reviews x-ray/inspection paperwork to determine grinding requirements.
Removes surface and subsurface defects from castings using rotary files, burrs, abrasives, or belts to prep for repair.
Blends and reworks repaired areas to specified tolerances; may use hand-held sandblaster.
Performs fluorescent penetrant inspection tests on parts to verify removal of defects and documents results.
Provides work direction and training to junior grinders as assigned.
Adheres to plant and department safety rules.
