Job summary

ANDRITZ in Torrington, CT is seeking an experienced grinder operator to run a 30” wheel grinder and meet exact customer specifications. This union, hourly position requires careful setup, wheel changes and precise measurements.

You will read work orders, plan priorities, and maintain equipment while adhering to safety and quality standards. Strong Blueprint reading and tool handling skills are essential.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of manual machining experience.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to read and use tape measures, calipers and micrometers, including metric measurements.
• Familiarity with run out, taper, surface finish, tolerance and blueprint reading.
• Computer skills for communication and work creation purposes.
• Good mechanical aptitude with powered hand tools.
• Hydraulics knowledge is helpful.
• Experience using lift trucks and overhead cranes.
• Must be able to lift 50–60 lbs and work up to 12 hour shifts.
• Ability to train for operation of all machines.

Responsibilities

• Operate grinding machine (30” wheel) to meet specs.
• Grind rolls up to 2,000mm dia., 14,000mm length.
• Read work orders and schedules to determine specs.
• Perform wheel changes and mount wheels to hub.
• Make roll measurements and track measurements.
• Use precision measuring equipment and perform hardness checks.
• Maintain equipment service records and perform routine maintenance.
• Complete daily paperwork and keep area clean and organized.
