Job summary

Benchmark Utility Services is seeking an Equipment Operator to safely perform excavation and earthmoving tasks supporting utility construction and sitework projects. You will operate heavy equipment, mainly excavators, to trench, move materials, and prepare sites for installation.

You will work with the crew to ensure precision, safety, and productivity in all phases of excavation. We value experienced operators who follow safety standards, communicate clearly, and contribute to a positive team

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years of experience operating excavation or heavy construction equipment.
• Ability to perform precision excavation near utilities and structures.
• Knowledge of trench safety, shoring, and excavation best practices.
• OSHA certification preferred.
• Valid driver’s license and willingness to tow small trailers is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Operate excavators, mini-excavators, loaders, and related earthmoving equipment for trenching and backfill.
• Perform precise excavation around live utilities with safety compliance.
• Conduct daily equipment inspections and routine maintenance; report issues.
• Follow trench safety, shoring, and barricading standards at all times.
• Assist crew with trench preparation, pipe installation, backfill, and site cleanup.
• Communicate with spotters and crew using hand signals and radios.
• Load, unload, and position materials and trench boxes using proper rigging.
• Maintain a clean, organized work area and document equipment uses and fuel logs.
• Support general labor and site tasks as assigned.
