Job summary

Veeco Instruments Inc. in Somerset, NJ seeks a Manufacturing Technician to build and test subsystems, collaborating with Engineering to troubleshoot during the build.

You will assemble components from inventory, inspect units, and ensure compliance with specs, tolerances, and customer requirements, with overtime as needed. This role offers growth opportunities in a cutting‑edge manufacturing environment.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Minimum 2 years hands-on experience building, testing, and troubleshooting complex electromechanical systems.

Responsibilities

• Read blueprints and schematics to assemble complex assemblies and subassemblies.
• Inspect, test, and adjust completed units to meet specifications, tolerances, and customer order requirements.
• Assemble parts or units, and position, align, and fasten units to assemblies, subassemblies, or frames, using hand tools and power tools.
• Position, align and adjust parts for proper fit and assembly. Connect cables, tubes, and wiring, according to specifications. Disassemble units to replace parts or to crate them for shipping.
• Measure parts to determine tolerances, using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and verniers.
• Drill, tap, ream, countersink, and spot-face bolt holes in parts, using drill presses and portable power drills. File, lap, and buff parts to fit, using hand and power tools.
• Operate or tend automated assembling equipment, such as robotics and fixed automation equipment. Operate small cranes to position large parts.
• Conduct tests and inspections of products or processes to evaluate quality or performance.
• Monitor gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly.
• Troubleshoot and determine causes of operating errors and course of action to correct.
• Perform routine maintenance on equipment and determine when and what kind of maintenance is needed, troubleshooting issues, and basic repairs on equipment.
