Job summary

SDM Composites in Paramount, CA is seeking a Drill Operator to operate drill machines for the manufacture of all types of fasteners. You will read blueprints, set up equipment, and ensure parts meet specifications.

Responsibilities include using micrometers/calipers, performing quality checks, detecting out-of-tolerance conditions, recording data, and maintaining a safe work area. If issues arise, adjust controls, perform trial runs, troubleshoot cutters, lay out parts for continuous machining,

Qualifications

• Able to read, comprehend, and execute directions from mechanical drawings.
• Able to measure dimensions of products to verify conformance to specifications, using measuring instruments such as rulers, calipers, gauges, or micrometers.

Responsibilities

• Operates up to two drill machines to produce machined parts according to blueprints, specifications and/or special instructions.
• Starts and operates machine operation to detect out-of-tolerance machining and adjust controls and machine as required.
• Operates machine on trial run to check accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data.
• Checks parts for conformance to specifications using micrometers, calipers and gauges and perform SPC
• Recognizes and remedies minor machine malfunctioning or cutting action of tools. Major discrepancies are reported to supervisor.
• Identifies, disassembles, and determines corrective action required to repair work or broken parts.
• Checks tooling and reworks as needed to keep machine running.
• Lays out parts for successive and continuous machining operations.
• Must be able to troubleshoot cutters and fingers. Tooling necessary for setup and operation.
• Examine products to verify conformance to quality standards, by following blueprints or work instructions.
